 Radio and Television in Canada

January 1st - December 31st 2022 

The past year in review

The top category in 2022 goes to Quick Serve Restaurants, with 4% share on radio and an incredible 8% share on television. 

On Radio, Mcdonald’s Restaurants represented 35% of the QSR category, followed by Subway Restaurants with 19% and Wendy’s Restaurants at 14% share. Second place category goes to Local Government which represented 3% total share. Gouvernement du Quebec dominated this category with a 40% share, followed by the Government of Canada with 12% share and Government of Ontario with a 10% share. The third place category goes to Smartphone & Mobile Services with 3% share. Top Advertisers of this category goes to Virgin Plus (28% share), Bell Smartphone & Mobile Services (20% share), and Fido Smartphone & Mobile Services (15% share). 

For Television, the top QSR spot goes to Mcdonald’s Restaurants with 27% share. Tim Hortons Coffee Shops scored second place with 18% share followed by Subway Restaurants at 10% share. The second place category goes to Furniture Stores which trailed behind first place with 3% share. Top advertisers in this category go to Leon’s Furniture Stores, The Brick Furniture Stores and Ikea Furniture Stores with a 30%, 19% and 12% share respectively. Moving on to third place, TV & Streaming Services had a 2% share. Crave TV took first place with a surprising 39% share, Stack TV landed in second place with 13% share and Disney+ came in third place with 9% share.

No change is seen in the 2 top TV positions when comparing 2021 to 2022. Mcdonald’s Restaurants had a 3% share of total TV advertising and Tim Hortons Coffee Shops followed behind with a 2% share. Crave TV saw the biggest jump in the 10 top, moving up 9 spots in 2022. Leon’s Furniture Stores got pushed down 1 spot into fourth place. Subway Restaurants moved up 5 spots in 2022, landing in fifth place.
